Half Dome Cable Climb Triptych

$9,999.00

These painting are based on photos taken during a climb of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. This was done August 3, 2021, when I was celebrating my 80th birthday by climbing Half Dome with my friend Matt Hill. We left the trail head at 3:00 AM and were at the top about 10:30AM. Images are of:

  1. A view of the beginning of the 400’ limb on the cables, This is where the real work begins!

  2. A view from about halfway up looking back at the Sub Dome, which was also pretty difficult to climb.

  3. A view of the very top of Half Dome where a young lady was jumping up and down getting even higher.

The three paintings can be bought as a set or individually. All three parts of it are oils on panel 14" x 18" in size. The originals are available and the images can also be purchased as limited edition giclees (the original painting size), signed/serialized gallery-wrapped canvas or paper prints with certification either separately or as a set. Please contact me for pricing. Larger views of the individual paintings are available in the slideshow. They include:

First Piece: Half Dome Cables

This image is what it looks like at the bottom of the 400' long cable run to the top. This is the tough part where you use the cables to help pull yourself up, one wo-by-four board at a time!! They say it is a 45 degree angle but it looks and feel more like 60 degrees.

Second Piece: Half Dome Sub Dome

This image is what it looks like about halfway up the cable run and looking back down at the Sub Dome. Several climbers said they thought the Sub Dome was as difficult to climb as the cable run. There are no cables on the Sub Dome, just a small trail in some places where you better step or else!

Third Piece: Half Dome High

This is a view from the very top of Half Dome. After we left the cables, I saw this young lady jumping up and down on the large rock that projects out from that location. I walked out on that ledge later but didn’t have the urge to do any jumping!
