Special Moments Gallery
This gallery shows paintings drawn from special moments in life.
One of my closest approaches to surrealism-where the sky isn't blue and the grass isn't green. A sub-tile to this painting is 'To Follow the Sun' - or to follow ones passions in life which are often a blend of life's highs and lows and the real and imagined as depicted by the sky and the earth, the land and sea.

This painting is based on photos taken during a climb of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. This was done August 3, 2021, when I was celebrating my 80th birthday by climbing Half Dome with my friend Matt Hill. We left the trail head at 3:00 AM and were at the top about 10:30AM. This image is what it looks like about halfway up the cable run and looking back down at the Sub Dome. Several climbers said they thought the Sub Dome was as difficult to climb as the cable run. There are no cables on the Sub Dome, just a small trail in some places where you better step or else!
Size: 14" x 18" - Oils on Panel.
The originals are available and the images can also be purchased as limited edition giclees (the original painting size), signed/serialized gallery-wrapped canvas or paper prints with certification either separately or as a set. Please contact me for pricing. Larger views of the individual paintings are available in the slideshow.

This image is what it looks like at the bottom of the 400' long cable run to the top. This is the tough part where you use the cables to help pull yourself up, one wo-by-four board at a time!! They say it is a 45-degree angle, but it looks and feel more like 60 degrees.

I walked out on that ledge later but didn’t have the urge to do any jumping!

A typical scene of the back porch of an old farmhouse as the farmers were taking a noon break from their work in the fields. It is time to take a break, put the hoe down, take off your hat and shoes, wash your hands and hope the flies don't follow you into the house for dinner.

A painting of a lady, Sally Plank, enjoying complete serenity as the sun sets over the ocean at Belize. The clear aqua waters of the ocean were not only inviting to be in, but were also very beautiful to observe at dusk after a long, peaceful day on vacation.

This is a painting I created incorporating some of the most popular and meaningful ‘Symbols of Love’ as related to relationships. The primary, and one of the most recognizable symbols, is the heart shape, a popular and universal symbol of love and affection. The joining of the two forefingers and thumbs creates the shape of the heart. The red and orange rose indicates a way to ‘light’ the orange flame of love and hope. In candle magic, an orange candle typically represents creativity, enthusiasm, and success while the red rose symbolizes deep love, passion, and desire. It also includes the infinity symbol, to indicate a love that is boundless, limitless and enduring without constraints. Finally, the blue and violet light suggest creativity, intuitiveness, spiritual insight, and high communication abilities.

I created this painting for Dean Smith. It represents his memories of playing 'hoops' at home in the late '60s in Eastern Pennsylvania. As with other paintings I've done, this one was also created from memories, old black and white photos and a bit of imagination to provide a lasting image of a 'special moment or place' in someone's life.

This is a painting I created in September of 2017. It shows the beauty and contrast between something very hot and something very cool. They are joined together with a blue film that illustrates that two items with apparent opposing characteristics often combine to create very beautiful image – as seen in scenes from nature and often with human relationships.

This is an image of a beautiful lady (my wife Minna) right after receiving a small bouquet of wild flowers from a blond haired, blue eyed, nine year old girl (my daughter Tara) at Lake Berryessa over forty years ago. It was a small gift with a large message of ‘Welcome to the World of Nature’ – a world that Minna eagerly participated in and loved for the rest of her life.

A view of great-great great Uncle George's cabin that still stands along the banks of the Shenandoah River, Virginia. The painting shows the children being brought back from school by their father in his 'flat boat' because the bridge to the schoolhouse upriver had been destroyed during the ongoing Civil War. Their mother had just finished washing clothes as described in a poem that was found in the cabin. (photo of 2nd picture) Cabin was built in 1752 and has been in the family ever since, although it now has vertical siding and even electricity. The challenge of this painting was to recreate it as we thought it would have looked in those days.
